I am enamored with the notion of 3d printing. Basically, you take a 3d model, and using the latest and greatest technology, “print” it out. The tech can be used for practically anything from making furniture to precision instruments to custom made robots.

Yes, robots. In perhaps the most useless application of 3d printing, web site MyRobotNation enables users to build a bot from pre-built pieces and stickers. You can pose it, color it and size it as you see fit. In the end, you get the robot of your dreams, or as close as you can get with the pre-built pieces that are supplied.

Another day, another Dalek

Adding to my photographic collection of Daleks is this WWII war Dalek. If you can believe the sign, it’s one of the Daleks uses on the show. It was sitting next to the actor who played Winston Churchill in the Doctor Who series. Oddly, I was more interested in the Dalek than the actor. Too much time with my iPhone I guess.

Having a great time at NYCC. Was at the DC party last night, chatting up this guy, talking writing, only to discover it is Greg Rucka, one of my favorite DC writers. Was so glad I didn’t say anything really stupid.

Lots of very cool toys for the kiddies this year. My faves are these baby vampire “vamplets”, some really amazing Punch and Judy like puppets, and some plushies that have emotional challenges like frustration and indecision. Accompanying books show how they work through their issues. Brilliant.

And of course been promoting Alganon, which is why I came in the first place. Me and Derek Smart, guy who runs Alganon, at the bottom.

Egyptian Museum

The Mummy and Spiderman

Today is the official start of Halloween season for me, despite the fact that stores have had their wares out for weeks.

Today I added two new denizens to my Halloween menagerie, a five foot tall mummy and a cocooned
man covered in spiders. I was nervous they would turn out to be shit, bought them via mail order, but they are awesome.

Pez Museum

One of the big tourist attractions here in the Bay Area, bigger than the Golden Gate Bridge, better known than Lombard Street, is the Pez Museum. They have every Pez ever made. Totally worth the visit.
